I really don’t know
that much about poetry but I listen to much music in English, And Somali. I
know what some of their meaning are and I don’t know some. The only song that
stands up to me the most that I always listen that I can listen to all day is K’naan
“waving flag”. That song has a great means and great lyrics. K ‘naan is a
Somali Canadian poet, rapper, singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist. The song
waving flag is about living under British rule; Somalia opposing British Rule. He
whore this song when the British people was controlling Somali how they were
taking over people homes and they were stronger then the Somali people. The song
tells a strong feeling and story about the British Colonies. The most lines in
the song that stand up to the most is “But look how they treat us, make us believers,
we fight their battles, then they deeive us, try to control us, they couldn't
hold us 'cause we just move forward like Buffalo soldiers. That line stand up because
it shows what the British did to the Somali people.
It's always interesting to listen to songs about rebellion, and how influential they are times of conflict. Seems like a great song.
ReplyDeleteI just love this song, and I love what Knaan stands for. He is all about harmony and his music really is positive. He is such a good role model and I love some of his YouTube acoustic performances and interviews as well. Have you checked those out? They are worth watching.
