Journal 8

One of the factor i've discussed in essay 2 was the effects of death and poverty in a child's community. In my research i've found the effect of poverty are most often interrelated so that one problem hardly ever occurs alone. For instance, bad sanitation makes it easier to spread around old and new disease, and the lack of wealth make people more vulnerable to them. Studies have also shown impoverished communities often suffer from discrimination and end up caught in cycles of poverty. A child whose raised in that type of community suffers the most, as they lack confidence in education and religion. As kozol describes the kids to be immoral with their faith and how they have difficulties maintaing an ordinary life without violence and poverty. If this factor wasnt present in Mott haven I think there would've been better oppurtuinites in succeeding and less discrimination.
