9/11 Jennifer Kane

Jennifer Lynn Kane

Jennifer's name stuck out to me, I'm sure why, but the more I get to reading about her the more I can relate to her. She was always on the varsity sports teams in high school and college. She had two siblings like me, she was also a lifeguard as was I. Jennifer had actually saved a young boys life from drowning while she was on duty as a lifeguard. Jennifer later graduated from college and went on to work for Marsh & McLennan on the 100th floor of the World Trade Center. Through her office windows she could see the Manhattan's skyline. Jennifer Kane was 26 years old when this tragedy happened.

Joanne Ahladiotis

Joanne Ahladiotis grew up in Rocky Point and then moved to Forest Hills in Queens. At age 27 she died from the 911 attacks. She worked on the 104th floor in the first tower. She was described as full of good intentions and always having a smile on her face. Her nickname was "Miss Smiley." In high school she was voted best smile by her classmates. On the same year she died she traveled all over the world. Some places she visited were Bermuda, Greece, California and England. She said everyday was like a holiday and we should celebrate it like one. Her last week before she died she spent it in Las Vegas with her parents. Her mother said "It was the best week of her life." She was a role model to her cousin Roula Galanakis and spent a lot of time with her. Their hobbies were shopping and cooking together. Joanne is greatly missed by her friends and family everyday.
The thing that meant the most to me when researching Joanne was how much her smile seemed to affect everyones day to day lives. It is nice to see how someone can impact someone else's life by just a simple thing like smiling to them.
I think by just hearing how much she was a caring and welcoming person can inspire me to be more welcoming towards others and always have a positive attitude. Just the simple things she seemed to do would turn peoples days around. In addition too it shows me that small gestures can mean a whole lot more then you think.

Siew Nya Ang

Siew Nya Ang was 37 years old when she died in the September 11 attack.  She born in Malaysia.  She had 2 daughter who named Jeanee and Winnee.  She was a technical analyst for Marsh USA Inc.  When the American Airline Flight 11 crashed into the World Trade North Tower, she was in her office on the 95th floor.  According to her family's description, Aug loved study, loved her family, and always hard working.  She always took care her daughters and wanted to dress them up like a princess.  Her daughters were missing Ang and had a hard time to say goodbye to Ang.  After the 2001, Her husband and her daughters flew back to Ang's hometown and attended her memorial with Ang's family.  She was a great women with all her passions to her work.  A great mom and great wife.  I feel the September Attack was the more sadness events that happened in 21th century.  Most people lose their family.  There are many case like Ang's family.  I feel it is so hard for their children because they don't have chance to say goodbye to their parents and friends.  I think Ang was a hardworking person and she loved her family.  Why should terrorist killed people that they haven't done something wrong?  I regret their lost in the September Attack.

Mukul Agarwala

Mukul Agarwala was a victim on September 11, 2001. He was a research analysis in the 2nd tower. Mr. Agarwala had a huge heart. He moved back near his parents in New Jersey while they were falling in health to take care of them. He also went on diplomatic mission to retrieve a mistreated Indian domestic worker and paid for her fare back home to India. Mr. Agarwala was also very enthusiastic. His interest ranged from snowboarding to reading history to watching old movies. He was known to have a sense of humor and to be true human being with a gentle soul. He also made a huge impact on his colleagues and his friends and they made several remarks concerning how he influenced their lives greatly. One quote included "He would have made an impact on people's lives and on the world, and will probably still find a way to do so"

What meant the most to me in this story was how greatly appreciated he was by his colleagues and friends. Reading about Mr. Agarwala, I constantly kept seeing this theme reappearing, about how he was such a positive influence in peoples lives. Everyone he came across seamed to instantly admire him.

Something that I would take from this person and apply to my life would be that my interest varies greatly with what I like to do in my free time just like Mr.Agarwala. What I would to take from Mr. Agarwala is his ability to have such a caring heart. He mastered this aspect and it showed by the amount of love and support he had from the people in his life.

Vincent Abate

Vincent Abate
Vincent Abate was one of the many lives lost o 9/11.  He was 40 years old and was a resident of New York City.  He worked as a bond trader for Canter Fitzgerald.  In a tribute of his, a close friend described him as the type of guy who would take the shirt off his back and give it to you if it was cold.  Vincent also lost his brother to 9/11, who worked for the same company, Vincent actually got him the job there.  The two were described to have a great relationship with each at work and at home.  What surprised me most about Vincent's story was how he also had lost his brother to the attack.  This surprised me because you didn't really hear about siblings losing there lives to the attack.  I think something I could apply to my life that I learned from Vincent is to live my life to fullest.  Vincent would always take trips to Vegas and just do what he liked.  I think the message here is to live your life to the fullest as you never know when it could end.

Lt. John Napolitano (age 33)

John served in the FDNY Rescue 2, during the events of 9/11. Being a fireman was his life's work, and accoridng to some, the amount of medals he recieved could fill a box. According to his father, that at a young age, John had wanted to help people. In, high school John became a junior volunteer firefighter within the Lakeland Fire Department. He was later relocated to New York, to join their fire department. Most of his fellow fireman said that he was a professional at his job, and very brave. During one emergency, John went back into a buring building to rescue his fellow fireman in the inferno that surounded him. But, he was not just a heroic firefighter, but hero to his famiyl, being a loving father, husband and friend. On September 11, 2001, John and FDNY Rescue 2 were called to the World Trade Center, where he and many other fireman in his brigade, lost their lives, due to the catestrophic events of that day.

In researching victims of the 9/11 attacks, I chose to research someone who was in the fire department, because it was them who did everything they could, in the face of fear and the unknown; sadly, many of them met their demise, including this brave fireman, at the World Trade Center, in New York. John was a brave and courageous fireman, receiving medals for his gallantry in the face of danger. For a fireman, policeman or serviceman, this is what i look for in them, because if it wasn't for men like John, many others would have died. In my opinion, John was one of the brave souls chose to go into danger, knowing the consequences, and that's what makes heroes.

From this man's life, one thing I have learned is to always be brave, even though the worse can happen, you just have to put that out of your mind (and I'm sure John did). John and many other firemen and policemen like him, make this country what it is. In fact, I think men like John should be made and example of, to show people what it is like and how it is like to have bravery and valor. People can learn from John, and apply these acts to their lives, for if the worse were to ever happen again.
